Public Service — A selfless one man act.


Hailed as the "Father of Philippine Arts," completely clinching his name in liberal arts as one of the Philippine National Artists. Guillermo Tolentino, was born and raised in Malolos, Bulacan during the 1890s when he started his early life and education.
He's a Filipino Sculptor where his main forte is the classical style in Visual Arts in 1973.
With his great designs and will to attain liberation through creativity, Tolentino brought his name to a peak and was given exemplary recognition.
Along with the Bonifacio Monument in Caloocan City, one of the most prominent works he has done was the University of the Philippines (UP) Oblation. The most recognizable emblem was commissioned by then University President Rafael Palma when Guillermo was already a sculpture professor at the UP School of Fine Arts in 1934.
Originally, it was located at the UP Manila Main Campus in Ermita, but during the university's 40'th anniversary, it was moved to the Diliman campus
In Addition, the UP Oblation (Filipino: Pahinungod, Oblasyon) features a man with arms outstretched, head tilted to the sky, eyes closed, and chest slightly thrust forward which serves as an iconic symbol of the said university. Depicting that it is selflessly offering himself to his union — the "Public Service" they call.
It is also a concrete statue type in sculpting.
Because of his mighty persist and fiery passion in committing in liberal arts, Tolentino, until now, still makes it possible and has been a symbol synonymous with the University of the Philippines.
